Need a new website?
Have a tired old website that needs updating?
Don’t know where to start?
Start here!

I will help you get started. Here’s how:

We begin with a conversation about the nature of your business and what your goals are for your website. It’s important to have this as clear as possible at the beginning to avoid rework as your project evolves. This keeps the costs down, speeds up the entire process and produces a website focused on your needs.

Then we lay out a possible set of pages with their content briefly outlined. We review how a visitor might interact with your website and navigate around. This can be done either on ‘paper’ or on a live test website. We also discuss the colour scheme, font choices and general ‘look and feel’ of your website.

At this point we almost have what we need to start detailed design and building … but we still need a name! Every website on the internet as a unique name (aka domain). What’s yours? A brief search on your choices will land us on an answer. But we also need to put the website somewhere (aka hosting provider)! I will recommend one based on my experience. Once we have a domain and hosting provider I can start setting up the technical environment to create the website. Now we can really get started together!

Frequently asked questions – Simple New Websites

Ah yes. Well, that depends.

Websites range from simple to highly complex. They can have an online store, or a internal social network, or deliver online courses, or complicated photo galleries etc etc.

See the next item for a description and costs for a ‘simple’ website.

A simple website might contain 4 or 5 pages, or 1 longer scrolling page.

A Home page typically describes the business, or what is for ‘sale’, or the purpose of the website.
An About page typically describes the context or history of the business, or describes the person or people offering the service or products, or both.
A Photos page might contain a gallery or two if appropriate.
A Contact page allows site visitors to send you an email.

The one time and recurring costs are estimated to be as follows for a simple website:

One time: Create the technical environment, $100
One time: Design and build the website, $400, about 8 hours of time.
One time: Optional training to maintain your website, $250. This of course depends on your capabilities!
Recurring: Hosting fees are about $175 for the first 3 years and $350 for each subsequent 3 years.
Recurring: Website name (Domain) fee is $15 per year.
Recurring: Optional maintenance and support for your website, $50/hour.

These costs are as of January 2024, and are only intended to provide a general sense of the costs involved. This is not a quote!

A simple website can be done in a few days. It depends somewhat on your availability and whether you have logos, content and photos available

The main effort on your part is creating the content. Content is the words that appear on each page.
